Big Green Gathering Festival cancellation political?

In the aftermath of the cancellation of the Big Green Gathering, Brig, Big Green Gaterhing Festival chief, as pictured at the BBC News one of the most important and long running festivals in the Uk, it is still hard to figure out how deliberate the saboutage was. Certainly, the injunction from the council came very late, after many months of meetings and recent indications that all was going ahead. The late arrival of the injunction has lead to spending by organisers, traders, artists and the public, which will all be lost. The BBC story has some details (and the picture of Brig is from their site).

The Guardian recognise:

“Some observers believe the closure of the festival is part of a larger plan to crack down on all environmental protest. Many of the people expected at the festival would have gone on to the Climate Camp, to be held in a few weeks’ time. Kent police’s blanket use of stop-and-search powers on thousands of activists at the Kingsnorth demonstration last year was recently found to be “disproportionate and counterproductive”, according to an official review.”

The fullest background, with many details to help put the picture together of how much this was a county level policy decision is at Schnews, who show how the key condition, set by the council, the only major condition the BGG failed to achieve, and the ground for the councils injunction, was failed because the COUNCIL REFUSED TO DO IT! :

“Mendip District Council had insisted on road closures as part of the licensing requirements. A festival organiser contacted the highways agency to process this fairly routine request. The decision was passed to junior management who reportedly came under intense pressure not to grant the closure. As the road closures were not secured, the council were able to claim that the BGG was in breach of licence.”

Mitch and I were to have been the fire keepers at the tipi field, so if I sound a little partisan, it’s cos I am gutted. Literally. I spent the weekend having my guts monitord by the fantastic nurses and doctors at the Royal Sussex County Hopital. Big Green thanks to A&E, MASU and 9a Short Stay!

One Response to “Big Green Gathering Festival cancellation political?”

  1. I think it is because of the fraudulant efforts of East Anglia and the IPCC to push faux data (that they then promptly lost) that is killing “Big Green”.

People are understanding that Environmentalism and Socialism are basically synonymous.
